What bikes do we use in our Camino by bike tours?

In this short guide, we would like to detail the bicycles we use for our French Way by Bike from Pamplona to Santiago de Compostela and our French Way by Bike from Leon in 1 to 3* hotels.

To ensure we always offer the highest quality on our bikes, we work with two of the biggest bike rental companies in Spain and on the Camino de Santiago who provide us with three different types of bikes for all situations and loads of extra service to ensure you are never without your bike.

All our electric bikes are rented through Bicigrino who uses exclusively Moustache Samedí OFF 5, MTB types. Bicigrino selected MTB ebikes to give cyclist along the Camino optimum performance on both asphalt and dirt trails through mountains.

This bike model has a special geometry and very efficient wheels: the diameter of the front wheel is 29" but the rear wheel is 27.5". This type of arrangement provides better control on downhills and increased traction and power on twisty terrain.

The 500W battery and BOSCH engine will provide a range of up to 120/km.

Bicigrino are official distributors of the brand and their network of BOSCH repair certified garages will ensure they can take care of your ebike at all time if anything happens.

CHARACTERISTICS

The bikes we use for our Premium Camino by Bike ranges are provided by Bicigrino who selected the Specialized Crave Comp 29.

The Crave Comp with 29" wheels is a versatile bicyle suitable for all types of land. The increased contact area of the tires gives you greater traction in loose terrain and / or rock, allowing the rider to pedal with less effort on any terrain.

Within the rental price is including shipping to your starting point on the Camino and also pick-up can be arranged anywhere in the Iberian Peninsula.

They offer a network of garages that broadly cover all the Caminos and have arrangements with taxi services and a wide range of accommodation to help solve any problem as fast as possible.

The bikes come equipped with the following accessories:

• Racks and specific preinstalled
• Extensions on the handlebars for maximum comfort on the road
• Tyres specially chosen for optimal use in road travel
• Bicigrino bottled water that you can keep as a souvenir
• Pair of ORTLIEB BACK ROLLER CITY waterproof panniers
• Secure Bicycle Padlock
• Tool kit with cameras, patches, pump and multi-tool (with chain tool) to solve any eventuality in route.
• Grease and oil kit to lubricate the bicycle during the trip.
• Gel Saddle to prevent chafing.
• Helmets are not included in the equipment for hygiene and safety reasons but can be bought from the supplier. We recommend innovative Høvding (airbag type).

They also offer as an option a Wifi connection device so you can stay connected on the road. (approximately 55 euros to hire for the week)

CHARACTERISTICS

If you decided to cycle the Camino on a normal mountain bike, or do go for a short tour around Galicia, your bike will be provided by Cycling the Camino.

Their large fleet of bicycles is continually renovated with the latest models as they actively update our stock, and each model in their range has been chosen because it incorporates the most recent technological advances in the field.

For our clients, they selected a custom hybrid model equipped with 27 gears, disc brakes and 27.5" wheels. They feature aluminium frames and all parts are Shimano-made.

Each bike comes with a pannier rack, bottle holder, bell, (front and rear) lights, safety retro-reflectors and a bicycle lock. Additionally, the panier rack incorporates a tool kit containing: an extra tube, pump, bike multi-purpose key, pedals key and tyre levers.

In the extremely unlikely event of an accident, the Cycling the Camino team is here to help (you can also call Ultreya Tours, but for bike incidence they will have a more accurate response). They will talk you through the repair if it can be done on site or find a repair centre close by. They will contact the garage on your behalf and explain to them the problem (removing the language barrier). Please note, that you might be requested to advance the repair cost so always ask for a detailed invoice, inclusive of VAT tax (called IVA in Spanish).

CHARACTERISTICS

Our providers offer 4 different sizes of bicycles to suit most needs (size 15, 17, 19 to 21). These are the most common sizes and will be sufficient for most users but ask us for details and refer to the chart below to find out what size would suit you.
