The most useful way to compare Camino agencies is to ask for evidence. A beautiful route description tells you what the journey might feel like. It does not tell you who holds your money, what happens if a hotel cancels or whether the price includes the transfers needed to reach an isolated country house.

1. Verify the company and its registration

Check that the company is a properly registered travel agency and carries the required professional liability and insolvency protection. Its website and booking conditions should make clear which business is responsible for the journey.

Ultreya Tours is based in Santiago de Compostela and is registered in Galicia as travel agency XG-569. We carry professional liability and insolvency protection through AXA, with the relevant details provided in the booking documentation.

2. Understand the proposed accommodation

The proposal should describe the accommodation standard, room basis and meal arrangements. Check whether the rooms are en-suite, whether the quoted price assumes two people sharing and whether a single supplement applies. A Classic proposal may confirm the category and property type before the final hotel combination is secured; Premium and Signature proposals are more likely to name particular historic or high-category hotels when those properties define the journey.

Location matters as much as star category. A fine rural hotel several kilometres from the marked Camino can be an excellent choice when the necessary private transfers are included. Without them, it may leave you paying for taxis or walking an unintended distance at the end of the day.

3. Read the daily distances

Do not judge an itinerary by its total number of nights. Two seven-night journeys can contain very different walking days. Look at every stage, the terrain and any route-to-hotel transfers. Ask whether a long day can be divided and whether an extra night adds a rest day or another walking stage.

If qualifying for the Compostela is essential, say so before the itinerary is designed. The route and recorded distance must support that objective; an attractive hotel should not quietly displace the walking required.

4. Identify every inclusion and exclusion

Your quotation should state what is included. Typical questions include:

  • Is breakfast included every morning?
  • How many bags are transferred, on which days and at what weight limit?
  • Are airport, station or route transfers included?
  • Are guidebooks, maps, credentials or guided visits included?
  • Which meals and drinks remain payable locally?
  • Are flights, trains and travel insurance excluded?

Ultreya Tours’ website prices are starting prices. The personal proposal and written booking confirmation define the actual services and final price.

5. Find out who assists you during the journey

Ask for the difference between emergency services, urgent journey assistance and ordinary office support. In Spain and Portugal, 112 is the number for urgent medical, police or safety emergencies. A travel agency’s assistance line is for problems affecting confirmed services, such as accommodation, luggage or an arranged transfer.

Ultreya travelers receive during-trip assistance details in their journey documents. Non-urgent planning questions are handled during Spanish office hours.

6. Read the payment and cancellation terms

Before paying, establish the deposit, balance deadline, cancellation scale, procedure for requesting changes and the currency used. Check whether a quoted “from” price has actually been confirmed for your dates.

Ultreya Tours requires a 50% non-refundable deposit to confirm a booking, with the balance normally due 30 days before departure unless the written confirmation says otherwise. Mandatory rights under Spanish and European package-travel law still apply where relevant; the full position is explained in our Booking Conditions.

7. Look for knowledge that changes the itinerary

Local knowledge should produce visible decisions: a transfer avoiding an unsuitable road, a hotel selected because its dinner service fits the stage, or a shorter day created for a traveler who cannot comfortably walk 25 kilometres. It should be more than a paragraph about authenticity.

Check the company’s named team and registration as well as its itinerary. You can review who we are and how Ultreya Tours works before deciding whether our approach suits you.

When you receive two proposals, compare them line by line using our guide to comparing Camino tour company proposals. If you would like us to design one around your own pace and priorities, start with the planning questionnaire.
