A day tour is the practical way to see Finisterre and Muxía when you have reached Santiago but do not have four or more days to walk the route. Group and private tours use the same road network and may share several headline stops. The experience of the day is different.
What can fit into one day?
Common stops include Ponte Maceira, the walled maritime town of Muros, the Ézaro waterfall, Cape Finisterre and the sanctuary at Muxía. Weather, traffic and the confirmed route determine the order and time available.
The direct drive from Santiago to Finisterre takes about 1 hour 15 minutes in ordinary conditions. Visiting Muxía, Ézaro, Muros and Ponte Maceira means following a much longer circuit around the Costa da Morte, with time needed for the sanctuary, lighthouse viewpoints, short walks and lunch. That is why a proper coastal excursion occupies a full day rather than a free afternoon.
The coast also works well as an overnight extension. Travelers can stay at the Parador Costa da Morte above Muxía or at O Semáforo de Fisterra, the small hotel beside Cape Finisterre’s lighthouse, then return to Santiago the following day. The extra night allows time for sunset, dinner and a slower morning beside the Atlantic without compressing every stop into one driving schedule.
The group excursion
Our group day tour to Finisterre makes the classic Costa da Morte circuit easy. Shared return transportation and a professional multilingual guide connect Ponte Maceira, Muros, Ézaro, Cape Finisterre and Muxía in one carefully paced day from Santiago. The excursion normally runs from approximately 9 am to 6 pm and costs €59 per person.
The group format suits one or two travelers who want a straightforward day at a lower per-person cost. Transport, the route and guiding are organized together. It also brings the company of other travelers, which many pilgrims enjoy after finishing the Camino.
The trade-off is a shared timetable. Departure times at each stop apply to everyone, the vehicle may be larger and the itinerary cannot be redesigned around one traveler’s lunch or preferred viewpoint.
The private day
Our private Finisterre day tour adds private return transportation and an English-speaking driver-guide. Give more time to Muxía, linger over a seafood lunch, seek the best coastal viewpoints or reduce the walking for a family member. The freedom to rebalance the route throughout the coast is the reason to travel privately. Prices start from €650 for the day.
A private day works particularly well for a family or small party, travelers with mobility considerations, or anyone who wants longer in Muxía, Finisterre or Ézaro. We arrange collection in Santiago and set the timetable around the chosen stops, lunch and walking requirements.
Group or private: the practical decision
Choose the group excursion when price and simplicity are the priorities and you are comfortable following a shared schedule. Choose the private day when flexibility, pace, collection arrangements or a particular stop justify the additional cost.
Neither format replaces walking the Camino to Finisterre. Walkers experience the gradual movement through Negreira, the Xallas country and the final approach to the ocean. Read continuing from Santiago to Finisterre and Muxía if you are deciding between walking and visiting by road.
