Santiago is a practical base for discovering several very different parts of Galicia. The choice depends on how much time you want to spend in the vehicle, whether you prefer coast or inland scenery, and whether a scheduled group or private day suits you.
Finisterre and the Costa da Morte
Choose Finisterre if reaching the Atlantic after the Camino has personal meaning. A full day can connect Ponte Maceira, Muros, the Ézaro waterfall, Fisterra and Muxía. The landscape changes from a river crossing and sheltered estuary to exposed headlands.
This is the broadest coastal circuit in our collection. The distance is rewarded with several changes of landscape: the medieval bridge at Ponte Maceira, Muros beside its estuary, the Xallas falling into the sea at Ézaro and the exposed headlands of Finisterre and Muxía. Our group Finisterre excursion follows a scheduled route. The private Finisterre day can spend longer at selected stops.

Rías Baixas and O Salnés
The Rías Baixas suit travelers interested in fishing villages, Albariño, seafood and historic coastal towns. A day may include Pontevedra, Combarro, O Grove and Cambados. Combarro is known for stone hórreos beside the water; Cambados brings pazos, wine history and the ruins of Santa Mariña Dozo; O Grove is closely tied to fishing, shellfish and the Ría de Arousa.
The group Rías Baixas excursion makes it easy to see the principal towns in one sociable day. Choose our private Rías Baixas experience when you want the coast shaped around Albariño, heritage, photography or a long seafood lunch.
Ribeira Sacra
Choose the Ribeira Sacra for deep river canyons, vineyard terraces and Europe’s principal concentration of rural Romanesque architecture. The Ponte do Sil cruise departure is approximately 135 kilometres from Santiago, close to two hours each way, and the wineries, monasteries and viewpoints are spread across both sides of the river. A coherent route is essential.
Our private Ribeira Sacra day tour combines private transport and an English-speaking driver-guide with a reserved winery visit and tasting, regional lunch and a Sil Canyon cruise. Estates around Doade include Adega Algueira and Regina Viarum. Coordinating the appointments matters here because the cruise has a fixed check-in time and a monastery that looks close across the canyon may require a substantial drive by road.
Stay in Santiago with a private guide
Travelers often leave Santiago after seeing Obradoiro and the Cathedral façade. A guided walk can instead use the extra day to understand the four Cathedral squares, the market, monasteries, university buildings and streets whose names preserve the city’s trades and legends.
Our private guided tour of Santiago lasts up to four hours and can focus on history, architecture, food or pilgrimage traditions. It leaves time for an independent lunch, a museum or a reserved Cathedral visit afterward.
How to choose
Choose Finisterre for the symbolic Atlantic ending and a varied coastal circuit. Choose the Rías Baixas for maritime towns, wine and food. Choose the Ribeira Sacra for river canyons, vineyards and monasteries. Stay in Santiago when understanding the destination matters more than adding another region.
Two days allow a stronger combination: one day in Santiago and one beyond it. Trying to combine Finisterre, the Rías Baixas and the Ribeira Sacra into one day would replace meaningful visits with driving.
