Santiago has restaurants for very different final nights: a long tasting menu, a seat facing an open kitchen, fish bought from the market that morning, or a polished hotel dining room where tired walkers can dress for dinner without crossing the city. No single ranking answers all four needs.

What the guides are measuring

The Michelin Guide sends inspectors and awards stars for the food. Its wider selection also includes Bib Gourmand and recommended restaurants. Guía Repsol is a Spanish guide whose Soles recognise the complete gastronomic experience and whose 2026 list uses three Soles as its highest distinction. Tripadvisor is based on traveler reviews, so scores and positions change continually and often favour places with a larger number of international customers.

Tripadvisor is useful for recent comments about service, language and atmosphere. It is less useful as a permanent league table. A restaurant can move several places without changing its chef or menu.

A Tafona

Lucía Freitas’s A Tafona, Rúa Virxe da Cerca 7, has one Michelin star and was promoted to three Repsol Soles for 2026. Freitas works with produce from the Mercado de Abastos, her family’s garden and the women producers in her Amas da Terra network. Fish, shellfish and vegetables lead the menus. The restaurant’s tables use old timber from bateas, the mussel platforms seen in the Ría de Arousa.

Choose it for a composed tasting-menu evening and book well in advance. Travelers with allergies or intolerances should give the restaurant details when reserving, not after arriving.

Casa Marcelo

Casa Marcelo, Rúa das Hortas 1, has one Michelin star and one Repsol Sol in the 2026 guide. Its open kitchen, counter and communal table create a sociable room close to the Cathedral. Marcelo Tejedor combines Galician ingredients with Asian and Latin American techniques. Tripadvisor also places it among the province’s most reviewed fine-dining choices, with thousands of reviews rather than the small sample attached to many newer restaurants.

Choose it for inventive food and energy. The format will not suit everyone seeking a quiet, private dining room.

Simpar and Indómito

The 2026 Michelin list gives Simpar one star. Guía Repsol also includes it among Santiago’s one-Sol restaurants. Its small scale and contemporary cooking make advance reservation essential.

Indómito also holds one Repsol Sol and appears prominently in Tripadvisor’s fine-dining results for Santiago. It is a useful example of why the public review sites belong in the comparison: recent diners can describe the pacing and service of the tasting menu in a way an award list cannot.

Abastos 2.0

Beside the Mercado de Abastos, Abastos 2.0 offers two distinct experiences: the informal Barra and the more structured Mesas. Michelin includes both in its Santiago selection, while Guía Repsol lists Abastos 2.0 in its 2026 restaurant guide. Tripadvisor carries more than two thousand reviews, making it one of the city’s best-documented choices among visitors.

The daily market matters here. Ask what was bought that morning and do not expect every dish seen in an old review to remain on the menu.

Other Michelin-listed choices

Michelin’s Santiago selection also includes A Horta d’Obradoiro, A Maceta, Anaco, Pampín Bar, Mar de Esteiro and others at different prices. A Michelin listing is not the same as a Michelin star. For seafood, read our guide to mariscadas, percebes and fish restaurants in Galicia.

How we choose for a traveler

For a final night we look first at the traveler’s appetite, preferred dining time and desired formality. We then check closing days, the current menu, dietary restrictions and the distance from the hotel. A two-hour tasting menu may be perfect after a short final stage and exhausting after a delayed arrival.

Restaurant distinctions, menus and opening days change, particularly between seasons. Ultreya Tours can reserve the restaurant and arrange a transfer as part of a private premium itinerary through Start Planning.
