Ultreya Tours requires at least 30 days’ notice for a Camino journey, but that is an operational minimum rather than the ideal time to begin. We recommend planning six months or more in advance for a wider choice of dates and accommodation.
Some journeys need much longer.
Twelve to eighteen months ahead
Begin here for:
- Private groups needing many rooms
- Parish, school or association journeys
- A private coach, guide and coordinated visits
- Highly specific premium hotels
- Travel during a major event or Holy Year
For large groups, we recommend beginning around 18 months before travel. Ten months should be treated as close to the minimum because accommodation, transport and guides have to be available together.
The 2027 Holy Year deserves early planning even for couples. Demand in Santiago and along the popular final stages is expected to be stronger, especially around Easter, summer and the Feast of Saint James on 25 July. Read our specific 2027 accommodation guidance.
Six to twelve months ahead
This is the most comfortable window for an individual, couple or small private party seeking:
- A particular month or fixed flights
- Premium hotels, pazos or Paradores
- Shorter stages requiring unusual overnight stops
- Several private route transfers
- Extra nights in Oporto, Santiago or historic Camino cities
Small historic properties may have only a few suitable rooms. Losing one night can affect adjacent stages, so early availability gives the planner more ways to preserve the intended pace.
Three to six months ahead
Many Classic self-guided Caminos can still be arranged in this period, subject to availability. Flexibility becomes useful: moving the start by a day, accepting an equivalent hotel or adjusting an extra night may preserve the itinerary.
Do not book non-refundable flights on the assumption that an open date shown in a catalogue means hotel space is held. A request date is not confirmed availability. Ultreya must check the complete journey and issue written confirmation.
One to three months ahead
At least 30 calendar days are required. A journey inside this window may be possible when the route, dates and accommodation have availability, but choices can be limited. A custom short-stage or premium itinerary is harder to assemble because replacing one unavailable hotel can introduce a longer walk or new transfer.
If you have already booked flights, enter the dates as fixed in the planning questionnaire. We will not move fixed dates merely to make a recommendation appear to fit.
Less than 30 days ahead
Ultreya Tours does not accept Camino arrangements with less than the required notice. This protects the time needed to check, confirm and document the connected services properly.
An independent traveler may still find accommodation directly, but should verify every night before assuming that the complete route is possible.
Month and route also matter
Spring and autumn are not automatically quiet everywhere. Easter, local festivals and weekends can create concentrated demand. September is popular for walking, while premium coastal properties may also be busy with non-Camino leisure travelers.
Routes with many lodging options are more adaptable than very short-stage itineraries dependent on one suitable property. Single rooms and large blocks of rooms are often harder to secure than doubles.
A useful order of decisions
Choose the approximate route, duration, pace and accommodation level. Submit the enquiry. Review the proposal and confirmed availability. Only then should you treat the Camino arrangements as secured.
If international flights are already booked, tell us immediately. Otherwise, begin with Start Planning and allow the accommodation checks to inform your final travel dates.
