Luggage transfer is one of the services that most changes how an organized Camino feels. You still walk or cycle the route, but you do not carry everything required for the complete journey on your back.
It is included on the walking or cycling days identified in an Ultreya Tours itinerary. These are the five practical questions travelers most often ask me.
1. What happens to my suitcase each morning?
Before leaving, attach the Ultreya Tours luggage tag securely and leave the bag with the hotel receptionist before 8 am every transfer day. Do not leave it outside, in your room, or in an unconfirmed luggage area unless the receptionist specifically instructs you to do so.
Use the luggage tag supplied by Ultreya Tours and keep it attached throughout the journey. The transfer schedule already identifies the correct accommodation, so do not replace the tag or write the next hotel as the destination.
The transfer team collects the bag from reception and delivers it to the next confirmed accommodation. Hotel teams may handle luggage belonging to several groups, so the supplied tag must remain attached and readable.
2. What should stay in my daypack?
Carry anything you may need before check-in: medication, identification, money, phone, keys, water, rain and sun protection, and a suitable layer for changing weather. Keep electronics, valuables, fragile objects, and essential documents with you.
I also recommend carrying a modest amount of food when the stage has limited services. A luggage transfer makes the daypack lighter; it does not remove the need to prepare for the walk itself.
3. Is there a weight or bag limit?
Ultreya Tours includes one piece of luggage per traveler, weighing no more than 20 kg. If you need to transfer a second bag or a heavier item, tell us before the journey so we can check whether it can be accepted and quote any additional cost.
Choose a bag that can be moved repeatedly. Close it securely and do not attach loose shoes, poles, bottles, or shopping bags to the outside. Bicycles, sporting equipment, unusually shaped luggage, and undeclared additional pieces are not included in the standard transfer.
4. Can I arrange luggage transfer without booking a complete tour?
Yes, but the provider and coverage depend on the route. We do not book luggage transfer only. Correos Paq Mochila, Jacotrans, and Pilbeo are examples of companies from which independent pilgrims can request stage-by-stage luggage transport. Their operating dates, routes, collection rules, accommodation coverage, and weight limits should be checked directly before booking.
Suseya is different: it organizes luggage transfers for travel agencies on the Portuguese Way, rather than presenting the service as a direct booking option for individual pilgrims. It is one of the specialist operational partners an agency may use behind the scenes.
5. What should I do if my bag is not at the next hotel?
First give the receptionist the order name shown in your vouchers and ask them to check both reception and the hotel’s luggage-storage room. The order name can be a person’s name, a group name or a phrase chosen for a celebration. Bags are often stored away from the check-in desk, particularly when they arrive before the rooms are ready.
If the receptionist confirms that the bag has not arrived, send a WhatsApp message or call the Ultreya Tours assistance number shown in your journey documents. Tell us the order name, current hotel and which bag is missing. Keep your telephone available while we contact that day’s transfer team and confirm where the bag is and when it will be delivered.
Do not place medication, passports, money, keys, electronics, or anything needed during the walking day in the transferred bag. Even a correctly organized service can occasionally be delayed, and those essentials must remain with you.
Daily luggage transfer is included on our published self-guided Caminos. Your proposal and final journey documents confirm the precise allowance and any route-specific procedure.
