Two years ago, we made the decision to pause Ultreya Tours.

It was not an easy decision. Ultreya had been part of our lives for many years, connecting us with pilgrims from around the world and with an extraordinary network of hotels, guides, drivers and local partners across the Camino. But our family was growing, and we wanted to give that new chapter our full attention.

Our daughter, Camila, had arrived.

Time that could not be postponed

The Camino teaches us a great deal about timing. There are moments to keep moving, moments to slow down and moments when the most important thing is simply to be present.

For Alex and me, becoming parents was one of those moments. We wanted the time and space to welcome Camila, adjust to life as a family and be with her during those irreplaceable early years. Pausing a business we had built with so much care required courage, but it was the right decision for our family.

Ultreya remained in our thoughts throughout that time. Messages from former travelers, enquiries about future journeys and the continued support of our partners reminded us how deeply this work mattered to us and to the people who had placed their Camino in our hands.

Returning with a renewed Ultreya

On 21 September, Ultreya Tours reopens and begins planning Camino journeys for 2027.

We return with the values that guided us from the beginning: personal attention, honest local knowledge and carefully coordinated journeys that respect both the traveler and the places through which the Camino passes.

We also return with a completely rebuilt website, a clearer planning process and a renewed collection of walking, cycling, private and group journeys. Some travelers will choose one of our established Caminos. Others will need a journey adapted around their pace, dates, interests or accommodation preferences.

In every case, our aim remains the same: to understand the person behind the enquiry and create a Camino that feels coherent, considered and genuinely theirs.

Still local, still personal

Ultreya remains a family-owned specialist operator based in Santiago de Compostela.

Alex continues as our Director of Operations, bringing together the many practical details behind every journey. I return to working directly with our travelers and partners, drawing on more than a decade of experience organizing, walking and cycling the Camino.

Our pause reinforced something we already believed: personal attention matters. Time matters. The people with whom we share a journey matter. Those lessons belong just as much to the Camino as they do to family life.

We are enormously grateful to everyone who wrote to us, remembered us or asked to be contacted when we returned. We are also grateful to the local partners whose work makes every Ultreya journey possible.

Over the coming weeks, we will reconnect with those partners and respond to travelers who contacted us about walking the Camino in 2027. If you are beginning to imagine your own journey, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Our family has grown. Ultreya has evolved. And now our Camino continues.
